Weeknotes: The Memory Remains — Week 27, 2026

  • This week I’ve been thinking about career paths, about how to quantify and measure things and social capital. Oh and the humidity has been rising fast.
  • Re-established my gym routine, this time equipped with a new (and cheaper) app for planning and tracking.
  • Did that thing this week where when people brought problems, instead of just listening, I went full career coach mode. This isn’t a muscle I’ve worked out much lately and I forgot how much I enjoy it. More of this?
  • Bittersweet leaving catch-up during the week. It seems like every 6 months or so there’s a small spike of people leaving, sometimes the company and sometimes the city or country. I wish everyone lots of success.
  • Nice little dinner on Thursday which drifted into the wee hours and all over Tokyo. Shibuya can be fun.
  • Costco on Friday. I have restocked coffee and cheese. The kalbi bake is delicious, OMG.
  • Saturday was July the 4th, so I went to a BBQ which was very fun where I ate way too much meat. One highlight was making a burger sauce, where we deployed Claude Fable to concoct a recipe: It was pretty good.
  • Closed the week in a secret bar in Oshiage where I tried very hard to listen to Japanese but failed to really speak any. Next time, eh?
  • I asked for a cocktail which “resembled the concept of the number seven”. I don’t know what it was, but it was very good.
  • After last week’s karaoke I’ve been reliving my teenage years listening to My Chemical Romance all week. Gutted to miss their live tours a few years back.
  • Did a small refresh of typography on this website, including adding support for JP, and rationalising design/font decisions. UI and heading styles are now M Plus 2 which I really like, but I’m not fully sold on it here. What do you think?
  • Feeling the urge to write a lot but also total writers block.
  • My friend, your desire.
