Grizzly bears enter into hibernation in late December, emerging in mid-to-late March. I am demonstrably not a grizzly, but I have been hibernating, and now March is here I feel myself waking up.
Monday was a public holiday: We went to Yokohama for street-food hopping in Chinatown followed by tinnies in the park at Hammerhead. I’m telling myself it was for LNY, but really I went to be swim in the sunlight.
This week I have been repeating the phrases “Academic Rigor”, “Intellectual Curiosity” and perhaps most frequently, “Informed”.
My team’s objectives are now all on track.
Friday I got some good news, with a buried lede of much better news. And had a few good conversations.
Much much later I was given a bottle of clear liquid in a dark alley - Rakia at last! Followed by a martenitsa. Thus marking my fifth year following this tradition.
Had a great time in a tiny bar devolving between randomly deep topics whilst saying goodbye to the group from BG.
I love Sofia: A place where every story I’m told connects to other stories, places and people I know. Sometimes I wonder what would’ve happened if I could’ve stayed.
At the weekend we walked the entire Yamanote line, which was significant in a few ways and let me close a few chapters. Biryani in Kanda, coffee at the Snowman, and spicey ramen in Ikebukuro. 40KM in total, it was our protest from not being accepted into the marathon happening this weekend.

Walking an entire city is fun. I wish I’d finished it in London.
