Weeknotes: Suffocating — Week 33, 2025

  • A while ago I said that my tag-cloud would’ve highlighted “Lunch“, this week it would’ve highlighted “Coffee”. Several memorable coffee catch-ups (without incident, this time). My current side-quest involves one of the less walked (and, documented?) roads of being a senior IC: networking. More about this another time.
  • Nothing too exciting to report. Got involved in some discussions, and tried to create focus-time to ship something. Made some progress.
  • Tragedy struck at Sonicmania after the epiphany that I was dancing to Drum ’n Bass but I hadn’t brought my brand new Kneecap bucket hat.
  • But, it was was brilliant. Sonicmania is the all-nighter pre-party for Summer Sonic. It was mostly electronic acts, and it let me finally tick The Prodigy off my bucket list (somehow I missed them completely when I lived in London). I loved their set. Many memorable moments.
  • I saw... sharp inhale of breath ... PERFUME, 2HOLLIS, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Floating Points, The Prodigy, Gesaffelstein, Shiory Bradshaw, Minna-no-Kimochi. All were great performances with high production value, and great energy in the room. I had major FOMO for the acts I couldn’t see. [highlight reel].
  • My mistake was booking a hotel room thinking that I could get some decent kip before heading to Tokyo. Unfortunately this plan did not work out, and I might as well have saved scratch by taking the first-train back and sleeping in my own bed instead. Oh well, at least I earned some air-miles.
  • Understandably the day after was less productive than I expected, but I got through a lot: I managed to gym, buy some groceries, do some homework, do some laundry, and most excitingly, go on a second haircut. And I finished watching the first part of Wednesday S02, which is good fun.
  • Co-star is great.
  • In the evening, I joined a bunch of families at Yotsuya crossing watching the Meiji Jingu Gaien fireworks which were great.
  • Sunday we went to Renoit X Cézanne exhibition, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I learned about a chunk of art history that I've always been hazy on, as well as some other things I've been curious about too. I’m not sure if it was a competition, but I walked out thinking that Renoit was the clear winner.
  • Shout out to TC — unprompted — giving me an alternative read on something which has connected dots at the cost of confusing me in a brand new way. But if even remotely true it makes for an AW moment so funny that I can already hear the laughter reverberating throughout the known blogiverse.
  • But words still matter.
