Reader, this week I closed a chapter. It represented a lot of work and many side-quests, and now it is done I feel a bit hollow. Sometimes big goals can be all consuming, for me this was no exception.
Relatedly, I have temporarily traded my wallet for a tote bag.
Okay so how do we re-gain perspective? You go for a walk with a friend, go for dinner with another friend and do a lot of talking and dreaming about the future. I did a lot of that this week. It also left me with minimal patience for some things I’m normally OK with.
Launched a series of new processes and small reforms for Technical Architecture at work this week, which I’m mega excited about. Only time will tell about how well this will go.
On Thursday I went to a party which was unintentionally optimized to reduce the chance of serious conversation to an absolute minimum: Darts (contributing movement) and Karaoke (contributing sound) in a small room (contributing claustrophobia). It was still pretty fun.
BTW: I finally found a pub with an actual terrace. And German beer! Fantastic.
OK so Saturday is where things got really cool: Together with fellow ex-Londoners, we did the 2026 Tokyo Metro Mystery Tour! It is a packet full of puzzles which are solved by travelling to different locations and looking for clues, and a 24hr ticket for the Tokyo Metro. It takes about 4~6 hours to complete.
It took us 13!!!!
It involved a lot of Japanese wordplay which, as non-native speakers, you can imagine posed a challenge. But it was really fun, and in a mind-blowing moment we completed the craziest backtracking through the entire day’s activities by 23:30 and finished the whole thing.
Did a sorta hanami on Sunday. Sorta. Had a good time.
