Weeknotes: Cure — Week 22, 2026

  • Another week, another special assignment. This one particularly interesting as it involves applying AI in a novel way. We do a lot of prep over the week. At the same time, I have started writing objectives for the next two quarters which is surprisingly hard.
  • Yakiniku on Monday night is very good. This won’t be my last time at GEMs this week.
  • Hey, good news, I no longer have braces! Bad news: I now have a retainer. My dentist is positively chuffed that we got here, almost exactly six months after we started. I'm just glad that it'll be quicker to brush my teeth.
  • The project I’ve been focussed on recently has a nice little nomikai and I have a few equally nice 1:1s. It’s night and day where we are now compared to where we started.
  • I received a gift mid-week: Club Mate!!!!!
  • This week is month-end, which for me now means a decent chunk of paperwork. I’m summoned to a dinner, where I’m a bit negative because I’m in a weird mood for many reasons and trying to convince anyone who’ll listen to convince me to bail on Sunday, followed by a long walk and tinnies in the park in my old neighborhood. There we talk about a lot and I’m tricked into recounting some of the things I’m proudest of achieving: This is the cure.
  • OK so Saturday I wake up bleary eyed and after fiddling around in Rekordbox I go to a friend’s house to eat curry, bask in sunlight and do some DJ practice. The curry is good, the practice is OK.
  • Sunday I wake up early because I can’t sleep: I make the journey to Shimokitazawa to do a sound-check: And what feels like moments later I am opening an all-day music event with a DJ set. It’s my first time playing anywhere since 2024, I’m very rusty, using equipment I don’t really know and playing a style of music I don’t really play. But it goes really well and is maybe one of my favourite ever sets. I love the vibe at 15:12. It’s here on Soundcloud, and here on YouTube.
  • There was a moment exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds in where the sound/lighting control booth surprises me by turning off all the lights, and turning on blue pulsing spotlights which are perfectly timed with the music. Because of the unconventional layout, I’m not in a booth so this is my first time being on this side of the lights and the moment is so dope that it will be forever engraved in my mind.
  • The rest of the day I vibe to all of the bands (esp. my friends who play immediately after me) and DJs who are playing. We break for dinner where very viscerally I learn that bass/lead guitarists are introverts, and drummers/singers are extroverts. DJs are something weird in the middle. Followed by karaoke where we blast rock and metal songs. Good end to a wild week.
  • In my own salvation.
