This week I finally replaced the e-reader which was stolen in December, and damn had I missed it. Once you have easy access to a library of books + a notepad, you can’t go back. I wish I had this thing in school.
Thanks for the flowers, they really mean a lot!
Civil Engineering is a pretty funny thing. When it’s done well, we don’t even notice it. Ever think about the sewer system? Chances are (in your city) that it’s stabilising groundwater, preventing flooding and providing all of the drinking water - that’s without talking about collecting and processing waste.
I’m enjoying a current affairs blackout, and after about a week things already feel more positive. Even Apple News’s curation algorithm, which I once spoke fondly of, has reverted to the now-normal pattern of pushing highly negative stories at me. The only thing keeping me from cancelling entirely, is the easy access to magazines!
Yes, reader, the bit about sewers is a coded reference to something I did this week. IYKYK.
Mornings this week I watched every Hanshin Tigers game. Starting your day with baseball makes for strange energy. And a strange emotional rollercoaster if the game is particularly engaging. Most games were meh. Friday’s comeback was brill.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - the thing about Baseball is that it’s a lot like Cricket, only with hats, rules that make sense and (crucially) a time-limit.
